Estimating a caloric goal using the Katch-McArdle Formula

Body Measurement Tracker will provide an estimated daily caloric goal based on your overall activity level, whether you want to gain, lose or maintain your current weight and your lean body mass. Your lean body mass will automatically calculated if your weight and body fat percentage are known. Body Fat percentage can be entered manually or automatically calculated using the Navy or Jackson-Pollock 3-point technique.

The app uses the Katch-McArdle formula to calculate an estimate of your resting daily energy expenditure (RDEE), which takes your lean body mass as input.

Your RDEE is then multiplied by a factor for your weight goal (gain [1.15], lose [0.85], maintain [1]) and for your activity level (light [1.3], moderate [1.5], strenuous [2]) to arrive at an estimated target calorie consumption to fit your body and goals.

As always, we recommend you talk to your doctor before making any modifications to your diet or exercise routine.
